September 2008

  • Working party discussed the Anglia in Bloom Judges Report and considered improvements and new projects for the next year. The colour scheme chosen for hanging baskets – vibrant pink and purple as recommended in the Judges Report.
  • Following several meetings with the County Highways Department and the District Council’s Conservation Officer, agreed that, instead of installing extra hanging basket columns, it was more practical and cost effective to use the lamp columns

November 2008

  • A working partybroadcasts Red Campion and Ox-eye Daisy seeds along the second section of the by-pass verge. This is year 2 of a five year project.
  • Representatives attended the Anglia in Bloom Seminar and reported back.
  • Wildlife Display Garden in the Promenade Park was Highly Commended in the Nature Conservation Category of the District Council’s Conservation and Design Awards.

December 2008

  • An article on Maldon in Bloom published in Maldon District Council’s “The Courier”, delivered to all households in the Maldon District three times a year.
  • Two new interpretation boards installed at St Peter Churchyard with information on the history of Plume building, the churchyard and other nearby landmarks.

March 2009

  • Four primary schools start planting seeds for the “Design and plant a flower bed” project.
  • Letters sent to businesses in the town inviting them to sponsoring hanging baskets on their premises.
  • Following a lengthy testing process a licence granted to use eight lamp columns along the High Street and the planters were purchased.

April 2009

  • Press releases sent to local newspapers about the Maldon in Bloom Competition.
  • The competition leaflet was circulated to all residents and business properties within the town.
  • Posters displayed in various locations along the High Street informing residents of the closing date and judging day of the Maldon in Bloom competition.
  • Schools pricking out of the seedlings for the “design and plant a flower bed” project.

May 2009

  • Hanging baskets and new lamp post planters installed along the High Street. Two new planters were installed and planted in the White Horse Lane Car Park.
  • A new 25 year lease signed with Maldon District Council for the Brickhouse Farm Allotment site including extensions to each end of the current site. A grant was awarded from the District Council towards the ground preparation.

June 2009

  • Schools plant out the flowers grown from seed in the prepared beds for the “design and plant a flower bed” project.
  • Maldon Open Gardens to support Christian Aid – Sunday 7th June.
  • RHS Judge adjudicated on the 2009 Maldon in Bloom Competition on 10th June. The standard of entries was high and the judge was very impressed with the winning entries. Due to the quality and quantity of entries, the judge awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in addition to first, second and third.
  • The Community Services team re-painted/stained benches, planters and several litter bins around the town.

July 2009

  • The Anglia in Bloom judges visit Maldon on Tuesday 15th July 2009.
  • All entrants in the Maldon in Bloom competition and representatives of the Working Party were invited to the Awards Presentation in the Town Hall on Thursday 16th July 2009.
